About Aqua-Spark

Aqua-Spark is a global investment fund that makes investments in sustainable aquaculture businesses that generate investment returns, whilst creating positive social and environmental impact (Forbes’, Impact 50). The fund is building an ecosystem of small to medium-sized enterprises across the global aquaculture value chain, to make the entire value chain of food more sustainable, healthier and more accessible for all. To motivate wider industry adoption, we work with supply chain participants to strengthen each other’s commitment to a more sustainable industry, collaborating to test and adopt new practices and technologies. To support industry adoption we believe in sharing what we have learned and what excites us. We regularly publish on these themes through our Aqua Insights publications and on our portfolio impact results in our annual impact report.

 

The role

As Aquaculture Research Editor you will make an important contribution to our mission by coordinating the publication of our Aqua Insights reports and blogs and by reporting on topics relevant to our portfolio companies’ impact goals. You will work as part of a team including the Chief Impact Officer, the Director of Partnerships and the Aqua Insights Editor in Chief. In addition, you will be working in close collaboration with other Aqua-Spark teams, especially the Dealflow- and Investment team.

 

Responsibilities

As the Aquaculture Research Editor you;

  • Aqua Insights
    • Coordinate production, editorial and design teams to deliver Aqua Insights reports and blogs (see https://aqua-spark.nl/aqua-insights/);
    • Contribute to the development of the Aqua Insights strategy;
    • Conduct research and interviews with our ecosystem to produce Aqua Insights reports and blogs.
  • Offer the Impact and Partnerships team support:
    • Keep up to date with relevant industry information through our expert network and report on our portfolio companies’ best practices to our wider ecosystem and our team;
    • Support the set-up of the Aqua-Spark community platform, providing content by unlocking knowledge within Aqua-Spark’s ecosystem (incl. our portfolio companies) and further expanding our expert’s ecosystem
    • Support the production of the annual Aqua-Spark impact report (Example: https://aqua-spark.nl/reports/aqua-spark-2021-impact-report/)
    • Support content of events and publications that advance the impact and partnerships agenda.

 

What do you need to be successful in  this position at Aqua-Spark?

  • Master degree or higher in aquaculture or another related field such as fisheries or agriculture with a strong aquaculture component;
  • 3-5 years working experience in report writing and/or editorial role relevant to the aquaculture sector;
  • Experience in writing and/or reviewing publications;
  • Superb written and oral communication skills, with ability to draft high level reports and publications, with a high degree of professionalism in English. Additional languages are an advantage but not required;
  • Excellent at establishing and maintaining new contacts and relationships with stakeholders;
  • Active-, service- and detail-oriented, structured and business minded;
  • Organized, self-motivated and proactive;
  • Eager to learn, broad interests with an understanding of world business, financial affairs and an awareness of trends and current activity in the relevant markets of aqua-/agriculture/ global food production industry, alignment with Aqua-Spark’s values;
  • Keep up-to-date on information that is relevant to the aquaculture industry and Aqua-Spark’s value chain and develop the skillsets and knowledge to specialize in aquaculture and its (financial) markets
  • Strong analytical skills, practical, able to work independently and learn fast
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially a very good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint and familiarity with databases;
  • High personal integrity, including the capacity to discretely handle highly confidential and sensitive information;
  • High energy and positive team member.
